On January 4th, 2019, we were heartbroken to learn of the passing of beloved company member Dr. Vanessa Parris and her sister. Vanessa was a bright light; her big smile and large bright eyes filled every room she walked into with an immense amount of joy. Through the process of informing our extended tap family of Vanessa's passing, we have come to learn just how far her influence had come to reach. People from all over the country sent their love and have wept alongside us knowing that she is gone. People that we didn't even know she had met and taken class from were sending thier sympathies and expressing their disbelief. Everyone knew Dr. VapsTaps, and whether she knew it or not, everyone loved Dr. VapsTaps. She joined our company in 2017 after getting back into tap through a class taught by another of our members. She was a member of the Apprentice Company for some time, but in 2018 she was promoted to our professional company. We were struck by her attention to detail and the incredibly detailed notes she took on every class and every routine. She was the kind of person that might leave rehearsal without having picked up much of what we did, but then she would come back the following week having it down perfect. She loved to learn and loved to tap dance. In order to properly honor her memory and her passion for learning, the Circle City Tap Company is proud to announce the creation of the Dr. VapsTaps Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is intended to assist adults who are rediscovering their love of tap or who are continuing to pursue their love of tap in attending local workshops, festivals, etc. Recipients of the scholarship will inform CCTC of what workshop, festival, etc. they would like the funds to go toward and we will take care of the rest. Applications will open soon! In order for this scholarship to exist, we are asking for donations to help fill the fund! If you would like to donate, please click the button below. |
